Verbal-language program v.s. aba
As my son turns to be 3 yo, I have to deal with school district now.
He was in 25 hrs/week ABA(1:1) through regionl center. He is still non-verbal.Now my son is in the transition period (2 hours at home ABA, 3 hours in school)to school. The school offers LASS (LAnguage Social Skill) class, which followsDr. Mark Sundberg’s verbal-language program. Dr. Mark Sundberg actualysupervises the program in the school (3days/week). Initially I thought it wouldbe good for my son to go to school to attend the LASS program. But after my sonwent for about two weeks. I feel it doesn’t fit him. It seems LASS program’slevel is too high for him. I also feel his behaviour regresses, e.g. he likes toplay door again, less pointing. I feel ABA(1:1) still would be better for him.I like to hear any comments.
Next week, there will be the third IEP meeting to finalize goals/objective.According to what was agreed, my son would go to school 5 hours/day, no moreABA(1:1) after new year. The current service (2 hours at home ABA, 3 hours inschool) would be stopped. If I want to fight to have 3 hours at home ABA, 2hours in school, what should I do? If the school does not agree, what wouldhappen? Will I keep the current service (2hours at home, 3 hours in school )until the conflict is resolved? I’m in California. Any tips to fight with schoolwould be appreciated.
