Eating on the disney cruise
I’m stressing! We leave Saturday for Florida for the 4 day disney cruiseand then 3 days at the resort. I’m going to pack snacks and of course tonsof enzymes. I’m so strict on his diet that I think this is going to drive menuts. Does anyone have any tips about getting the least amount of infractionswhile on this trip?
I’ve ordered the travel guide for special needs kids. I’ve found what Ithink is the closest whole foods which looks to be about 30 minutes away. Ialsofound a store called The Organic Place in Kissimme, don’t really know whatthey carry.
I know we’ve talked about this several times on this board, but from thefamilies who have already done this trip, how did it go? Any tips would begreat??

I understand that Disney can do a GFCF diet. You may want to look intothat if you haven’t already. I think you need to let them know ahead oftime.
WE travel a lot and I have learned a couple of tricks. Take lots ofpre-packaged food. EnjoyLife breakfast bars, Applesauce cups, etc. Ifanyone ever gives me a hard time I just do a sad guilt trip on themabout my childs extensive food allergies and the danger of his eatingfoods that are not safe. Usually they sympathize and let me go. Lookout for fruit and vegetables like broccoli and carrots. You can eventake these and give them a second wash if you are worried. But I stilldo enzymes if I know I haven’t prepared the food. Bottled Water orjuice from it’s original container (you may want to grab a few juiceboxes before you go)I will even let my son drink a coke before a juicethat I don’t know is safe.
And obviously it seems that a lot of foods are sugary and not sohealthy. That is another issue to deal with. Which is another reasonwhy I try to find some prepackaged stuff that has a low sugar contentlike nuts. You may even want to try to grab some thai kitchen soup bagsfor cooking with hot water. You can check on their web-site for whichones are casein free and gluten free.
Cruises seem to have pretty good wait staff. You may want to talk tothe waiter or the head waiter about your concerns too. If you have agood one he may keep an eye out for you in the kitchen.

Disney will accomodate a GFCF diet on the cruise ship and atthe resorts. All you have to do is to call the cruise line and tellthem your child’s allergies and call the reservation center for theresort stay. If you know where you are going to eat at the parks, youcan call them as well. All locations need at least a 24 to 48 hournotice for speciality items (like rice pasta or GFCF bread) but if youtell them when you walk in they will help you too. My husband worksfor Disney and they have always done this w/ my son’s food allergies.Even preparing a special cake for his birthday that fell on the sameday as the Christmas party. You will also have the same waiter forthe entire cruise so you should only have to tell him or her onceabout your child’s allergies and they should remember it. Hope thathelps!
