Question about food obsession
My son just went to a birthday party where we let him have a piece ofcake, but gave it along with AFP Peptizde enzyme. He longer shows anintolerance for wheat or eggs after a year on the diet and moderate formilk. He kept going back for more even after I told him not to. Hewent 3 times and got a piece, which I took from him, and we left when Isaw him licking the icing on the cake! He acts similar to this when hehas Sprite. He gets very hyper with that, but the cake made him seemlike an addict. We limit both of these, but I was wondering if anyonethought these cravings might be an intolerance of something in it.

The fact he was licking the icing makes me highly suspect that morethan the cake itself. It was probably the food coloring - especiallysince you said he had enzymes because I believe they cannot help withreactions to food coloring.
My son is GF only but takes enzymes. His class had a walking fieldtrip to RiteAid where they were going to get ice cream. I told hisaide since there was the issue of cross contamination, why don’t theyhave my son pick out a push-up instead. He had never had one beforebut was told he loved it. Almost a month later, I got push-ups athome. When he saw me pull them out of the freezer, he went wild. Igave him one but when he was 1/2 way through I took it away. The wayhe was acting was frightening. The next day he did not want to eatanything but kept pointing to the freezer. I looked at theingredients and was surprised no matter which flavor, they all hadred dye #40. I’m sure that is what drove him wild.

I know I am comparing non-Autistic kids with those with Autism, butmy 9 year old (NT) son is obsessed with cake at a birthday party! He will eat 3 pieces before others are done with their first. It isembarassing. Addict is a good description!
Could be pure excitement over something deemed ‘forbidden’ as wellas a tolerance issue. I will add, though, that this NT 9 year oldtested positive for a wheat/grasses IgE allergy as a toddler… soperhaps there is something more than excitement going on here, too!
