Dairy-free question: is whey okay?
My sonRyan has not been formally diagnosed ASD yet (dx scheduled for Marchby a dev ped, and/or in January by a DAN! doc), but I suspect he maybe on the spectrum. We started him dairy-free on 10/24, then put himon Nystatin on 11/3. We’ve yet to do the gluten-free.
Yesterday, I noticed that almost everything packaged (fish sticks, chicken fingers, etc) has “whey” listed as an ingredient. I’mwondering if whey should be avoided. It seems to me that itshouldn’t, and I use the following reasoning: milk contains twoprimary proteins, casein (75% abundance) and whey (25% abundance).Whey is simply another protein found in cow’s milk, but it is notcasein, which, it’s my understanding, is the protein that can causethe optiatic state (along with gluten). The diet is called “CFGF”,not “CFGFWF” - - the name seems to imply that it is casein inparticular, not all proteins from milk, that are the problem.
Can anyone provide me with some reasoning counter to this? I’manxious to know the answer, as it would drastically change what ourson is able to eat.
Seeing an allergist
I have had many tests and etc done on my son only because the doctorshave never recommended anything. I feel like I should be gettingtheir salary for doing their job. Anyway, I asked my sons doctor tosend us to an allergist to check all food allergies. Does anyone haveany suggestions as to what I should specifically ask the allergist todo? They may run their usual tests, but is there something specific Ishould ask to make sure they check everything? I would appreciate anyhelp. So far the diet, enzymes and vits aren’t doing anything. I’mmissing something somewhere and not sure what.
Cheese subsitutes
We are adding casein free to our sons diet and I need to findsomething that is similar to cheese. I am gluten free and so is myson, but we are now finding out that we need to do no dairy also.Since I make gluten- free meals for my whole family I would like toalso be able to incorporate no dairy also so my husband may not seethe difference, I am not sure if that is possible. I thought I wouldtry though!
Gfcf weight gain
Can anyone suggest a good food or recipe for weight gain (that’sGFCF). Our boy lost nearly 10 pounds from battling the flu.
Single mom-dom
Single Mom-dom is a difficult place, but you can do it! I have two daughter 121/2 and 14. I have been a single parent for 12 years. I prefer not to livewith anyone, because that is mess. The 12 1/2 yr old has PDD.
I think all moms, single or not need a day of rest- at least once a month andmaybe more. Good luck.
Fish oil, protein powder, & b12 shots
We started our son on the CF part of the diet last week, at leastwe’re trying… He’s not eating much - like a rebellion.
I wrote in on Monday about the rice milk with protein powder - he’sstill not drinking it. If I don’t put in the powder he will drinkit -it’s just getting him to accept the powder. We’ve started withabout 1/4 the amount, and he still rejects it. Any suggestions?
Also, while he LOVES the SuperNuThera in his applesauce (we got thegreen apple flavor) I cannot get him to take the fish oil - NordicNaturals was recommended by 3 sources. We tried the berry andlemon, and even the gelcaps (childrens dha) but he wants nothing todo with it. Before we started the CF we could be somewhatsuccessful hiding it in cottage cheese, but obviously that is not anoption now.
Does anyone have any recommendations on how to get your child to eatthe fish oil and the protein powders?
Also, has anyone done the b12 shots? Our son is low in b6 and b12,and it has been recommended to us to have the b12 shots. I’d lovesome input…
Unwanted gfcf food items needed
if anyone has gfcf food items that they don’t need (your child won’teat them, etc.), please send me an e-mail and get address info to sendto a child that will use them.My families having a hard time right now and we sure can put them touse.

Peptizide
I was wondering, being that I am going soy free as well with my 7 yearold, who also has high phenol issues, should I do peptizide or AFPpeptizide? How much should I give? Can it be given with the zymeprime or is that too much enzymes? How much of zyme prime as well.I’m assuming I give one of each at meals? He weighs about 67 lbs. Thanks in advance.
