Is diet working?

I hope soemone can share there experience with me. My daughter hasbeen on the diet for 3 weeks today. She did wonderfully the firstweek (ate everything offered) and I swear we saw an improvement inbabbling and eye contact. Everything seemed ok until last Thursday. She started to refuse food. She has been cranky (wanted to cuddle allthe time)…She also seems scared of things that normally nevrebothered her (TV commercials). I am wondering if it is withdrawal?Today she has the worse diarrhea and is barely eating anything? Couldit be her system cleaning out? She is also on SuperNuThera and I amonly giving her 1/2 tsp in the morning (we are working our way to fulldose). I am sure she hasn’t had any gluten/casein. I have been withher the entire time. She seems worse than before and is not smiling at all. She has noother “sick” symptoms (fever, runny nose, etc)…

Remember that a lot of kids that are true responders to the diethave an addiction to the gluten and especially casein. Sometimes yousee great improvement within the first week or two and then you maysee regression but generally that is part of the withdraw. Kind oflike a drug addict with cocaine or someone who smokes. They gothrough a withdrawl.

Super Nu Thera tends to be one of the multivitamins that is hard onsome of the kids tummies. It has a high dose of B6 and a few otherthings that contribute to upsetting the stomach. We tried SNT but itwas way too hard on my sons tummy and we started using Kirkman’sSpectrum Complete Hypo-allergenic. 1/2 tsp twice a day. It hasworked really well for him.

Many kids who are great responders do go through the withdrawl whenfirst starting the diet and she very well may be going through it.My son did but it passed within a couple of weeks. You just have toget over the bump and move on. I would look into getting a trialversion of the Spectrum Complete and see if she tolerates it betterthan the SNT.

My son’s story is at http://www.sashasrecovery.comHe has been GFCF for 11 months and SCD for 2 1/2 months. We’ve beendoing the DAN! protocol for 11 months now and he’s doing great!

I am awaiting the OAT test results and think Claudia has a yeast problem too. What are the symptoms of drug withdrawal? I can never get clear answers onthat.

With my son the symptoms of withdrawl was simply regression. He wasvery moody, cranky, tantrumed at the slightest thing, startedstimming more by flapping a straw, looked out of the corner of hiseyes a lot, he was just in general acting “more Autistic” than heever had and I thought the diet was making him worse. It eventuallyall went away and we started seeing the good again.

For months Sasha would laugh in his sleep and also while he wasawake he would just sit and laugh for no reason at all. That was ahuge sign of yeast that I didn’t know about at the time. Also he toewalked quite a bit. It was at random times and didn’t last very longbut that was a sign of yeast as well. The Karyn Seroussi book taughtme a lot about Autism and yeast.

Check on the Super Nu Thera though to see if it’s possibly toostrong for her. I’ve heard time and time again that people who startoff with SNT have to swich to Spectrum Complete including my son.

For my son, all those negatives would have been associated with theSNT. Drop it and see if that helps. If it does not help, thenconsider another supplement she does not tolerate, or perhaps foodsshe does not tolerate. Soy, corn, and phenols can be nasty forcertain kids

If it does help, she is probably phenol intolerant.

we had a similar experience when first starting with our son. In his case Ibelieve it was because once the ‘FOG’ of the morphine was mostly cleared out theeffects of phenols began to show. Are you supplementing her diet with a lot offruit or items that have food coloring in them? Also, I have read that SuperNuThera is high phenol. Try stopping it for a few days and see if it helps. Good Luck.
