Autism?
Does anyone else wonder if their child could have celiac disease orother GI issue that makes them gfcf, speech delayed and sensoryissues? I understand why my son is classifed as autism and I knowit is a big spectrum but there are so many autistic things thathe does not do that I wonder if he has another issue that causesautistic like problems?

For my son and many others, heavy metal toxicity and/or systemic virusissues caused the “autistic like problems”.

My #1 child has aspergers and no food issues, child #3 has autism &celiac and child #4 has celiac disease but is NT. I used to believethat celiac disease could have caused the autism for my son but themore I come to find out about our health histories, I believe celiacdisease, autism, sensory issues etc are just different manifestationsof the same thing. Either these conditions are caused by mercury andother metals or are not conditions in and of themselves but symptomsof one single condition - metal poisoning.
My #4 child with celiac disease does not have any of the behavioursthat my #3 autistic child has. When he has an infraction he hasphysical reactions such as vomiting, sharp stomach pains andhorrendous smelling diarrhea. His behaviours are like what child’swould be like when in such pain - irritable, clingy and inable toconcentrate. My celiac son has never craved gluten - he avoids itlike the plague. He had his diet changed at 10 months of age. Thoughhe did not start walking until he was 18 month old, he has beendevelopmentally advanced in all other areas - especially speech.
My #3 autistic son is obsessed with gluten even though he has been onthe diet for over 4 years. He never cared for milk though. When hegets gluten without enzymes, he is like a Dr. Jekyll/Mr. Hyde. He isabsolutely uncontrollable and behaviours he had stopped for years suchas feces smearing and self-abuse come back with a vengence. Becauseof the dual issue of celiac disease, he also has the pain and diarrheawith an infraction but does not have the vomiting problem like hisbrother.
My #1 asperger son has been put on the GFCF diet twice for about 2months before we knew he was aspergers (did it as a family). Therewas no change in him. The family also went on the SCD diet for 9months and though he said he felt it made him smarter, it did notchange any of his sensory issues. He has been tested for celiacdisease through Promethus labs and it came back with a definate resultof not celiac.
When you look at a set of symptoms, it can get confusing and can makeone doubt if their child really is autistic. I look at autism like acold. One person may have a runny nose and cough. Another person mayhave a stuffy nose and fever while another sneezing and headaches. For some it may be a mild irritant while they go about their dailylife while another may be flat-on-their-back sick. Regardless whatthe unique combination of symptoms and their severity one has, theystill have a cold.
