My son just diagnosed as pdd-nos

One of my twin sons(32 months)has just been diagnosed as PDD-NOS. He isquite a lot like your typical 2year-old except for speech delay, andhis social skills are not very good. Having said that, he has beenmaking lots more eye contact and increasing interation with us, so Ihope that it will only get better. Is there anyone out there who can give me some advice on whether Ishould put him on the Diet? He’s been dairy free for about 3 days now.One of the special ed teachers I spoke with today seems to think thatthis Diet is more helpful for kids with gastro-problems. My son has noproblems with food, etc. Any advice will be a great help.

Here is my brief and layman explanation: Our kids do not digest the glutenand casein (from milk) properly. they end up with peptides in their system thatare (glucomorphine) & (casemorphine) and therefore they are morphine addicts. If you take a list of the autistic behaviours and a heroin or opium addict, theywill parrallel almost perfectly. When our kids have those meltdowns that youdon’t have a clue what caused them, usually it is because they have not had asufficient ‘dose’ of these foods and are experiencing withdrawal. Some kids gothrough a serious withdrawal period and some don’t seem to have any negativeeffects from the removal of these foods only good ‘improvements’. Many of thekids also seem to have a hyperactive reaction to some fruits and sugars as wellas artificial products (Feingold) especially once the morphine wears off. Themore you follow this site you will see that many of us follow at least a partialFeingold diet as well as the gfcf.

my son’s doctor said the same thing “only if they have gasterinal problems”which James does not have.

You can find on the net groups of people doing this for ALOT of problems. This includes all of these which my adopted son has… Fetal Alcohol Effects,PDD-NOS, ADHD, Sensory Integration Dysfunction, Asperger Spectrum Tendancies, and possible Depression. Had ST, OT, PT, Special Ed Resource since he was 2years old when he was evaluated.

He had NO words at two, and we taught him “sign language” which was atremendous help. He started talking at 3 years old, and hasn’t been quiet eversince!!! LOL. James is 9-1/2 years old now.

There have been “unofficial” stats that say this diet helps ALL of thoseproblems. But most doctors say it’s ONLY for those who have “gasterinalproblems”.

I have chosen NOT to do this diet right now, but go for limiting artificialcolors, artificial flavorings and perservatives (which all are recommended byparents of these kids)

By listening to all of you on these boards, I realize that James does nothave ANY “reactions” like you guys are talking about to these “possibleinfractions” and most your little ones have “allergies” towards these foods, whichJames does not.

It’s James “behaviors”, specifically being hyper, which I’m thinkinglimiting certain foods may help.

I would assume that this gf/cf diet MIGHT help him, but with no support athome and a lifestyle and schedule that is crazy, this diet would be wayyy tostressful on an already stressed out family, marriage problems and my ownanxiety disorder.

Since James main problem is FASD, I’m going to check out those messageboards this week.

CAN ANYONE RELATE??? Does anyone have any comments?

If it is the artificials you are going to try eliminating go to Feingolddiet site. It is great, has been around for a long, long time. My daughter whohas ADHD is on Feingold and is also Lactose intolerant.
