Book suggestions for starting gfcf diet
Hi there. I have a 4 1/2 yr old ds that has been diagnosed with PDD-NOS. We are going to another doctor in Feb for another eval anddiagnosis.
I am going to go GFCF and start enzymes.
I am still getting educated about this diet and was wondering ifanyone could recommend any good reading material to help me.
I am getting special diets for Special Kids by Lisa Lewis today.

Any gluten free, dairy free, or allergy free cookbooks will ahve lots ofinformation on howto cook woth various restrictions and nutritional facts that will be helpful, socheck outyour library forst before buying ro try a search on amazon.com’s site and readthe reviewsto see who favors which books.
My personal favorites are:Sully’s LIVING WITHOUT magazine.
Any of the “GF Gourmet” books by Bette Hagman (although most of the contactinformation at the back of the book for products is outdated (I called or sentpostcards outthis summer to these, and most were ono longer valid, but thankfully, there isthe internet)
“Special Diet Celebrations” by Carol Fenster.
GLUTEN & CASEIN FREE COOKING” from http://www.GFCFDiet.com (I purchased this greatbookin 2000, so am unsure of reprinted, or not), Edited by Judy Dehart.Special Diets for Special Kids I (and II), by Lisa Lewis, which you have oneof).
I purchased many cooking books on allergy free cooking, dairy free and wheatfree, on topof gluten free many years ago. I personally never follow recipes, but insteadhave alwayslooked at similar recipes from many different sources, and whipped up my ownversions, based on what I had in my cupboard at the time. I know replacing eggs andliquids has tobe measured to some degree, and most people prefer an actual recipe to follow. MY bestadvice is to find a few staples to START (a flour mix you like, a milksubstitute, etc), anduse them for everything while you “practice” this new way of cooking, and havesomethingto eat, until you feel brave enough to venture into changing the various floursand milks toadjust the taste and texture, etc. Out of hunger and necessity for food, a lotof peopleactually buy as much store bought items that are gf as they can until they learnthe basics, until you can’t afford to do so any longer. I think the people in this groupcan be of greathelp to you, too. You’re doing all the right things.
