Soy
I am new to this group and to GFCF diets. I think it would be helpful to allif when posting, more details such as the age of the person on the diet andlength of time on it would always be mentioned.
Becky wrote:My son’s sleeping patterns changed drastically. He would get up at 2amand cry for couple of hours. He also slept on and off during the dayfor 15-20 minutes. I thought it could be yeast or soy. He is sleepingwell since I completely stopped soy.
I am not criticizing Becky but from the posting we have no idea when her sonstarted using soy and why she also suspected yeast.
From everyone’s experience, does soy seem to be a problem for a lot ofpeople? And why?

Yes, soy is a problem for many. Its protein is similar to that ofgluten & casein. There was some research done by Jyonouchi on theeffect of gluten and casein on children with asd, and she found thatsoy was even worse - for some kids. Some DAN doctors such asMcCandless now require patients to initially be gf/cf/sf since somany are bothered by all 3. I have friends (some on this list) whoreported minimal gains on gfcf until they also removed soy.
Since many kids prior to gfcf eat little soy, the problem may notbecome apparent until they have been on the diet for a while anddaily consuming soy products.
It’s something all of us to keep in mind when starting gfcf. If thediet is not producing obvious benefit, or there are new problemsthat arise, consider removing soy.
