Carrying emergency foods/traveling with kids
I have done this for YEARS, and I would never leave home without at least awater bottle and a couple of “granola” bars on hand. When traveling with mykids, we pack a soft-sided cooler of chilled filtered water bottles, and abackpack of snack items (Wylde pretzels, all natural beef sticks, homemadepopcorn, raisins, raw almonds, GF “granola” bars, or whatever we have on hand). Ifwe’ll be a long time, I also pack some cut up veggies and some fruits, and a wetwashcloth in a ziploc bag, to wipe up sticky little people. I even found aTupperware-type container with that blue gel stuff inside the plastic. I keep itfrozen to put the fruits and veggies in. This really keeps them cold!
NEVER trust that you’ll find acceptable food on the road, and always keep atleast a few non-perishable items in the car, just in case. I used to keep acut-down Nutramigen box in the car, and kept it filled with water bottles andvarious non-perishable snacks. It fit nicely between my front seats and I had itfor years after my daughter no longer took formula.
Other suggestions–hard cooked eggs in separate ziploc bags, wrapped in papertowels. The ziploc bags hold the shells (or any broken eggs!), and the papertowel keeps the egg from breaking and also aids in cleanup! Small disposablecontainers of dips for the fruits and veggies–nut butter, salad dressing, whatever you like. Extra gallon size ziplocs for garbage or dirty clothes. Don’tforget to pack extra meds in original bottles, in case your regular ones getlost in transit! Those little portable fans on necklace strings are wonderfulfor each child to wear and use on hot days. We used these in Disney World, andboy were they nice! Don’t forget extra batteries!

I got some from Miss Roben’s, I believe. I don’t have them in front ofme right now, but they are either Wellshire Kids or Wellshire Farms brand.
