Coconut oil

I know Omega Foods makes Coconut Butter (Oil) that is edible. My HFS said thatthe only coconut oil they carry is from Spectrum Naturals. It is labeled on ajar for body and hair care. The ingredients simply say Coconut Oil. The HFSswears that this is edible as well. I just want to make sure that we can usethis for cooking. Anyone out there using it?

Spectrum makes two grades of coconut oil. The one you saw has been aroundfor a while. A year or two ago, they added the second one, which is the foodgrade one. It comes in a glass jar exactly the same size as the other one,but with a green cap and label marked “organic”. If your store carries theone, they can get the other. I also ordered it by the case from MountainPeoples Warehouse.

I actually bought the soft gells. It sort of looks like a horse pillbut it’s chewable and taste good. The brand I buy is EmeraldLaboratories. It looks like their website only shows 1 of many typesof coconut oils that they offer. Our health food store carries it.www.emeraldlabs.com or 800-436-4366.

My son takes cod liver oil and Pro-EFA Omega 3,6,9 fish oil in asoft gell form so I figured I would try this and he loves it. It isa rather large pill looking type soft gell but it chews well. Iswallow them and it’s hard for me to swallow but chewing is easy.

I buy “extra virgin” coconut oil that has less of a strong coconut taste. Youcan cook with it, including frying (well stir-frying any way–I don’t know aboutdeep frying), but it has a different flavor than you might be used to. I liketo put some coconut oil in my breakfast “smoothie” or mix it in with my hotoatmeal. (Some people who are GF avoid oats. We seem to tolerate it okay.) You can rub coconut oil on the skin too. It’s the best remedy I’ve found for mydry, rough feet. It’s oily though. I put on special socks after I’ve oiled myfeet.

By the way, in the summer time my coconut oil turns to liquid at roomtemperature.

Coconut oil has been of great benefit in the past to us too. I take it,because I am nursing my 11 month old. It raises the concentration of good fatsin the breast milk!

We used to spread it on the inside of my son’s bread when we madesandwiches. I also used to liquefy it in a pan of warm water and syringe itinto himwith his other supplements.

I stopped giving it to him a while ago, and now new tests came back with alittle level of yeast elevated. Can I ask what brand you use? We have usedTropical Traditions, Jarrow, Spectrum, and my favorite Omega Nutrition.

We use the brand called Emerald Laboratories. It comes in a softchewable gell form and Sasha loves it. I really think that it’sbetter than most people realize from reading that book. I alsostarted using coconut milk and Sasha’s oxalate level has droppedwheras we were using Almond milk which is full of them.

I wish I had time to post all the benefits of the coconut oil thatthis book claims. I could scan it and email it if anyone wants acopy of it.

The lady at the health food store said that she’s been taking it fora year to control her Thyroid and that it helped when prescribedmedications didn’t. I have also read about how you should take itwhen nursing like you are doing. I want to read more about it but sofar so good.
