Goat milk/cheese
This is quite interesting. My 6 year old - who was breastfed (for 14months) while I was limiting NOTHING in my diet (ugh) didn’t react to mymilk. However, a few months ago, he was interested in seeing what ittastes like now that he has a baby sister who is bfing so I put some in acup and gave it to him. This time I am avoiding dairy of all sorts -have been since before she was born - yet he reacted to it. There wasnothing in my diet that he is allergic to, but he had a reaction like histypical dairy reaction. To this day, I don’t know what to make ofthat…
What About Goat Milk? Or Breast Milk? Or …? casein (in each ofits variants) and lactose are found in the milk of every single mammal, although in varying ratios. Most people who have an actual allergy toany of these milk components will be unable to consume any animal’smilk. However, there is only an 85% overlap in milk protein makeupacross different species (I found that out doing a Medline search) sopeople who have an unusual milk allergy, or who are merely lactoseintolerant, may find that a milk other than cow’s milk is digestable. Also, remember that since each mammal has protein and sugar variants intheir milk, it’s possible to be allergic to the milk of only one, or oneset of, mammals. The exception to the “all milk is dangerous milk”rule is infants. Children under the age of about five (the age at whichchildren self-wean in non-industrialized countries) thrive onbreastmilk, even when they react badly to every other kind of milk. Those who react to breastmilk are usually reacting to cow’s milk proteinin their mother’s diet, protein which migrates from the mother’s gut toher breastmilk.
