Neurologist and what they can do for autistic kids.
I apologise if this is way off topic, but I wanted to seek advicefrom experienced parents of autistic child.
Does anyone know how a neurologist can help an autistic child? Whenmy child was diagnosed as “slow developmentally”, we were advised bya therapist, to bring her to a neurologist. The neurologist saw mychild and said that she doesn’t think my child is autistic. Then, about 1/2 year later, my child was diagnosed with autism by apsychologist. At which time we changed insurance and was seeing adifferent neurologist. This neurologist said that he thinks he seessome autistic traits and asked us what we think. He also ordered anMRI and when the report was out, he merely said “everything wasnormal” and did not go into detail.
Questions:1. They both did not do any test on my kid. Could a neurologistdiagnose autism?2. They both did not seem to contribute to my kid’s improvement ordevelopment. In fact, they didn’t seem to do anything. Should wecontinue to see a neurologist? Find a different neurologist?
Advices and opinions are welcome. I do not know what a neurologistcould or should do. So I’ll definitely appreciate any information.

We see a neurologist who not only is an expert and I trust, but he managesour son’s medication (SSRI). He doesn’t help in the day-to-day therapy, buthe does help in major issues like medication changes.

A Neuropsychologist would probably be of more help. They do extensivetesting to determine disabilities and give a more accurate diagnosis. We have found this quite helpful, especially with school placement. The Neuropsychologist goes further than the normal school testing. For a child it is best to find a Pediatric Neuropsychologist. This isnot always covered by insurance, but is well worth it.
