Baby acidophilus

I have a 5mo old with eczema; I’ve written about him before. He hadit all over his body. He’s nursing. Since I’ve given up dairy, wheat, & corn, his body has cleared up. He only has one or twolittle patches that are going away.

However, on top of his head & on his cheeks are red, crusty, sometimes oozing spots that I just cannot get to go away. Hisforehead did heal, but again the back of his head & his cheeks, particularly one, just won’t heal. His allergist wants me to givehim antibiotics. I’m terrified to do this becz I feel theanitbiotics he had at birth due to a problem may have caused a yeastissue which led to this.

I take Primal Defense myself. I would like to know if giving him anantifungal directly would help. If so, I have no idea how to get itinto him. He does not take anything by mouth except to nurse. I oncetried to dissolve a capsule of probiotic in water & drop it in hismouth. I barely got 2 drops in; he had a horrid look on his face asthat must have tasted terrible. He was spitting it out too.

I really need something baby friendly but also very good. Can anyonehelp with a recommendation?

Try giving up soy as well. Have you given up what I call sub-corns as well? Those would be citric acid, corn syrup, dextrose, baking powder, breads, aswell as any corn or derivatives in supplements? Corn is very difficult toremove from the diet. It took me quite a while to get there.

The other item you might try removing for a time is coconut - specificallywhat comes in soaps and shampoos. All commercially made soaps start withcoconut. Kiss My Face brand olive oil soap doesn’t have any. There are otherolive oil soaps that are ok, particularly some of the ones that are importedfrom Greece. We just removed coconut and life is a lot better. It caused mydaughter to have dry skin, bumps and terrible constipation.

When I removed gluten from my daughter’s diet, it took 5 months for her skinto return to normal. What took the longest were the scab-like rashes. Noneof the anti-fungal creams we were given ever did anything. Time and a strictdiet, however, are what did it.

    I hope this helps.

Soy was next on my list; I’ve cut back drastically but have noteliminated yet. I know what you mean about corn; I only eliminatedobvious corn, not “sub-corns. That seems so difficult but I guessit could still be irritating him so I’ll try.

I had no idea coconut could be an issue? I love coconut & would liketo use the milk to replace soy. I’ll see if everything else doesn’twork & then I’ll get rid of that IF I really have to :0((.

I did make a paste with Culturelle using my breastmilk & smeared itinto his mouth, so he got his acidophilus that way today. I knowthat a lot of folks are not using Culturelle due to a percent oflactose in it, I believe, but I do not know anything palatable thatis as strong. If anyone does, please advise.

If you have access to a DAN doctor, you could buy Klaire Labs probiotics. Ifnot, you can buy Enzymedica’s ProBio at http://www.iherb.com for a lot less than atthe stores. I used that for a long time and it has no chance of having anydairy. Klaire Labs probiotics also have zero dairy. We are using those nowas they are more potent and we are chelating. You could also use oil oforegano to control yeast.

Coconut doesn’t have to be an issue. I was just pointing out that it mightbe worth looking into after you’ve eliminated all other possibilities.

How about rice milk? If dairy is a problem, it is very likely that soy wouldbe as well. For us, removing soy has meant soy protein, soy lecithin andsoybean oil. Leah gets a huge reaction from either component.

We have a DAN! Nutritionist; she may have that. She usually willsuggest things that she has & didn’t mention that though. I willtry iherb.

The kids drink rice milk, except for my autistic son who we give nomilk to; he drinks only water. My daughter drinks Carob Rice Dream;not sure if that one is an issue. She’s so used to it that I hopenot. I just personally don’t like rice milk so I won’t bother withit. My son likes almond milk (again I don’t like it) & my daughteris allergic to tree nuts so she can’t have that. I am going to tryDarifree for myself; maybe she’ll like the chocolate. I just didn’twant to get her started on chocolate if I could help it!

If Carob Rice Dream is by the same company that makes regular Rice Dream, then you have barley cross-contamination.

With almond milk, if you use Blue Diamond, then that has soy lecithin in it.Pacific doesn’t, but my friend and I have had problems with it in the past.

DariFree is fine. You don’t have to buy the chocolate variety. Instead, youcan mix it with carob and your favorite sweetener. For the carob, I suggestup to 1/2 tsp. per 10 oz. drink.

There is also hazelnut milk. I believe that Pacific makes that.

I use Whole Foods brand rice milk. It’s always been clean and I’ve never hada problem.

Yes, it’s the Rice Dream brand carob. My daughter isn’t strictlygluten free, so it isn’t a major issue for her. My son used to drinkHazelnut milk, but my daughter is a lot more allergic to hazelnuts(deadly) then almonds, so I switched him to almond milk - Pacific -& he likes it better anyway.

I will try to make the Darifree “carob” for her & see if she likesit. I order that online. I used to have a Whole Foods near me, butnow the closest one is 1hr away :-(. I miss it…

Can you pump a bottle for him now and then? That is what I do to get theprobiotics in my little one (5 1/2 months) and she takes it well. I takemy own (Natren Healthy Trinity - dairy free) and she takes Natren Bifidusfactor (dairy free) powder so between me taking mine 3x a day and hergetting a bottle of it at least once a day, she’s getting lots!

I think you are right not to give antibiotics. Stand your ground on thatone - no reason to make it worse! :)

I’m a terrible pumper, but I could probably get some out for him.But the paste thing is working & it’s easy!

However, I wanted to know if anyone knows of a GFCFSF formula. Idon’t typically use formula at all but I want to know there’ssomething here he can have in case.
