Help! my child was sent home from school today.

It’s been quite a day today. I got a call from the school nurse thatmy son has been acting up. He refused to get out of the bus today andhid under the seats. They had to get him out. I was told that when hegot to the classroom he went under the table. So finally the schoolcalls me at 10:00 to pick him up because of his disruptivebehavior. His been sick lately. He was out sick from school for 3 dayslast week due to bronchitis. His on zithromax antibotics for 5 days. Our last day is today. Could it be the medication? Could it besomething else? Please help me shed some light to this. I am just atmy witts end.

Depending on how it is administered, most formulations of Zithromax havelactose in them. That’s probably the culprit. There is also corn starch.

    See http://www.rxlist.com/cgi/generic/azith.htm

Check with your pharmacist to see if lactose was included in the inactiveingredient list or in the flavoring they used, if they prepared asuspension.

I am sure Zithromax has artificial colors and flavors, among otherthings. My 6yo son goes BALLISTIC when he takes meds with “artificials” inthem. If this behavior is new, and the meds are new, I would say you’re probablyright to make a connection between the two. If he’s almost done with the meds(one dose left), just finish it and try and survive the reaction. Otherwise, call your doctor and have him call in a prescription for an all naturalversion from a local compounding pharmacy, if at all possible.

If this happens more than once, consider adding a BIP to your IEP.They can’t just send him home every time he has undesirable behaviors.
