Gluten free cookie bars
I’m wondering if anyone uses these, and if your child toleratesthem. They are gluten free and vegan (most varieties, but notall). However, their website states that they are kosher butmanufactured on equipment shared with Dairy.
My son has had some sporadic “off” days, and I mentioned what hemight be reacting to. He said “It’s the cookie bars Mom…I neverfeel right after I eat them”. So, I emailed the company and wastold they are definitely gluten/casein free. I emailed back askingwhy the website states “DE” for Dairy Equipment, explaining that myson is sensitive to even traces of gluten or casein, they wrote backand asked that I call them to discuss it.
I thought that was a bit odd, and have not yet called. I wanted tocheck and see of others are using these cookie bars successfully, orif anyone has seen a reaction from them.

A few thoughts about your situation.
A) It might not be whatever traces of casein might or might not be on thebars, but another ingredient in the bar that your son doesn’t get anywhere elsein his diet, that he is reacting to. Look at the ingredients and see if there’ssomething “unique” to these bars relative to other foods he eats. See if you canfind it in another form (preferably pure whatever it is or again mixed only withthings he gets regularly but definitely gluten and casein-free) and see if hereacts to that food the same way.
B) I interpret them wanting you to call them in one of two ways:
#1) They want the specifics of your son’s reaction, and talking about it onthe phone (real time versus playing e-mail tag) will accomplish this moreeffectively and give a better outcome for you and for them as far as knowing ifthis is what is making your son react and them knowing what issues they need tobe aware of for other customers.
#2) (Not nearly as nice) They don’t want anything in writing from here on,that you could share on a board like this (or take to your lawyer if theyhaven’t been on the “up and up” with you about something that they’re onlyrealizing isn’t quite right).
Hopefully it’s the first. I’d call them, especially if they gave you atoll-free number, and see what they can tell you. You might also be able to askabout hidden preservatives or other things that a supplier of one of theiringredients has used that therefore doesn’t have to appear on the label for thefinished product that might be contributing to your son’s problems.

I had the same reaction to the cookie bars too. My son LOVES them WAY TOOMUCH and begs me for them. HE seemed to have unformed stools for a few daysafter he would eat the vanilla or banana one’s and would have tantrums afterhe ate them. I called the company and they told me the same thing, but ifyour son is very sensitive to gluten and casein I wouldnt eat them if youthink you are seeing a reaction, its not worth it.
