Finding gf foods
My son Ryan is currently CF (for three weeks now), and I’m consideringgoing GF. Money is not an issue - - I can afford to buyeverything “pre-made”, which, with three children under the age of 3,is sincerely appreciated by my wife. However, I have no idea where tofind this stuff. I wouldn’t want to ingredient-search everything, asI’ve done for CF, since it’s my understanding that just abouteverything MIGHT have glutten in it. I’d feel safer if it actuallysaid “glutten-free” on the package. I know a few items that say thisin “regular” grocery stores (for example, UTZ potato chips), but notmany. Besides Trader Joes (which our ST already told me about), arethere any other grocery chains that are particularly good with CFGFdesignations on food?
Why no vitamin d?
I know that humans can NOT absorb calcium efficianty in supplement form;therefore vitamin D is ness. to assist in the absorbsion of Calcium into thebones. I give my son the vitamins from Costco also…coincidentally. But I wasabout to purchase and additional supplement from kirkman labs of Calcium w/Vitamin D for the reasons I just mentioned. Could you enlighten me as to whythis is not a good idea?

Gf/cf personal items?
How vital is it that items such as shampoo and soap be gf/cf? Have pplhad success on the diet without switching to gf/cf personal items?
Also, what is in play doh and glue that makes them off limits as well?Is the reason they are a no-no because the child could put those itemsin his mouth? What if the child simply washed his hands thoroughlyafter use?
Gluten free cookie bars
I’m wondering if anyone uses these, and if your child toleratesthem. They are gluten free and vegan (most varieties, but notall). However, their website states that they are kosher butmanufactured on equipment shared with Dairy.
My son has had some sporadic “off” days, and I mentioned what hemight be reacting to. He said “It’s the cookie bars Mom…I neverfeel right after I eat them”. So, I emailed the company and wastold they are definitely gluten/casein free. I emailed back askingwhy the website states “DE” for Dairy Equipment, explaining that myson is sensitive to even traces of gluten or casein, they wrote backand asked that I call them to discuss it.
I thought that was a bit odd, and have not yet called. I wanted tocheck and see of others are using these cookie bars successfully, orif anyone has seen a reaction from them.
Gfcf plan to start - and chicken nugget questions
I am really trying to get a handle on the GFCF diet, finally. Byfar, it is the hardest thing I have tried in recovering our son, andI know many parents tell me how much easier it is today than 10 yearsago.
So, here is my plan……our son is 5-1/2 years old, attends schoolfull-time (9:00 - 3:30) and is in daycare after school for 2 hoursand before school for 2 hours.
1. I can control what he eats at school, I make his lunch andprovide his snacks. I told the teachers about us starting the GFCFdiet, and they reassured me that they will not give our son anythingto eat other than what we provide. This part is easy except for thefact that there are very very few things he will eat. In fact, Isent in GF cereal with CF milk today for lunch.
2. I can control what he eats at home, although I am STILL trying tofind GFCF foods. Whenever I am in a pinch and he eats somethingwith gluten, I give enzymes. I am in the process of trying GFbreads, GF cereals, GF chicken nuggets, GF spaghetti and GF pizza. He eats nothing else.
3. I cannot control what he eats at daycare. Our daycare provideris very supportive of what we are doing biomedically, however, she isrelying on me to provide the GFCF foods. So, when I do find a GFbread he likes, I will bring it over to her house, etc.
I am hoping this will work…and praying for gains with this diet.
So, I tried making GF chicken nuggets last night…this is big forme. I had GF breading and I fried them in safflower oil. Theylooked like the real thing…but my son wouldnt even tough them.Very discouraging. Is there anything I can do to spice themup..make them taste better? Salt? Seasonings like McDonalds?
Newbie–very concerned about nuitrition
I’m new and am freaking out. My son is 22 months old and was verypicky before starting the diet. He’s been CF for a month but glutenpresented a problem because he was already down to 3 main foods(snacks have all been GF, they are easy). I took the plunge yesterdayand he’s now GF too and I don’t plan to go back but he’s not eatinganything but pancakes, Gerber rice cereal w/applesauce and Gerberpureeed fruit. I’ve tried every trick in the book, he will not acceptany chicken nuggets, which was his only meat. Hasn’t had a veggie in2 months. How long can he survive on pancakes for lunch and dinner.Doesn’t he need protein? I’ve literally tried all the recipes and hewill not even try one bite. I’m just worried. Am I doing more harmto his body? Should I get some sort of protein powder?
Alternative to cream of tartar anyone?
I need to make iced cookies for thanksgiving, and I usually put creamof tartar in the icing to make it harden. My son showed high levels oftartaric acid in his last DAN report, does anyone know of an ingredient that canharden icing besides cream of tartar?
Where are the empty capsules?
I have powdered Peptizide, would any one know where can I get emptycapsules.
Rice milk maker
I am considering buying a rice milk maker, like “The Soy QuickAutomatic Soymilk Maker”, I wonder if anyone try to use one of thesemachines, and how did it perform
