A newbie and feeling overwhelmed

This will probably be rambly, but I found this group and thought I’dstop by and ask for help.

1. Where do I begin? I’m feeling pretty overwhelmed as I look in ourpantry and see that about 99.9% of the food in our home (well it feelslike that anyway) won’t be able to be consumed anymore once we startthis diet. My kids seem to live on pasta, bread, cheese, and milk. How do you stock your pantry? Does everyone in the family follow theGF/CF diet, or do you “short order” it.

2. What are some “typical” foods that my kids can still enjoy (did Iforget to mention that I have one child on the spectrum and anotherthat we suspect to be on the spectrum - and an infant that we aremonitoring closely) - we are going on vacation soon(DisneyWorld) so howdo we handle eating out, etc.?

3. Cost - Is everything so expensive? We live in an area that is verylimited to what is available in our grocery stores - we are getting atrader joes soon, but we have no stores and the organicarea in the market is quite limited. Is it best to order online?

4. Help…I feel pretty overwhelmed but know that this is a necessityand I’d appreciate any and all information I can get my hands on.

First of all, just keep in mind that this will get much easier–Ipromise–and it is for a great reason–your kids!

Secondly, yes, I do find it expensive. No way around that. about thefamily eating gf/cf–i keep both my kids gf/cf even the one who is noton the spectrum. I cook almost totally gf/cf at home–just find iteasier also, I didn’t want home to be another place where my kidscan’t have what everyone else is having. So we all eat the samethings pretty much.

eating out is hard–we went to sea world a couple of weeks ago for theday and I just brought all of their food from home. I know that theirare places at disney that you can talk to ahead of time and they willwork with you. others on this board can help you with that.

I find that I buy a lot of my food online. our grocery store only hasso much, but you do start to learn what is ok from the regular stuff.

I ordered the starter package from the http://www.gfcfdiet.com (on therecommendation of this board) and it has been very helpful.http://store.yahoo.com/stewartdehart/noname1.html

I just started this in august–i used http://www.tacanow.com. they have a tenweek plan to switch over to being gf/cf and I used that just sped itup and did it in about a month. that helped it not be so overwhelmingto begin with. It has gotten so much easier.

No, especially if you keep it simple. I did paleo diet for about ayear, where you just eat meat and fruits and veggies, nothing prepackaged.
