Autistic traits
My daughter is a medical mystery. She “kind of” has “some” autistictraits - but according to all the specialists, is not on the autisticspectrum at all. She has cognitive delays, but we don’t know why orwhat. All we know is what she isn’t. We don’t know how to deal with it.We have been to a geneticist, neurologist, cardiologist, etc, etc.Should I go to a DANI doctor? How do I find one? Does insurancecover it? (I’m divorced and unemployed) I feel so isolatedmedically, financially, mentally - we need help.I have had to quit my job just to lug my kiddo to doctor appointmentsand therapy - all to no avail. I am running out of money, patience, and hope.I feel she has allergies - food and otherwise. I want her hairtested for heavy metals. When I mention any of these things to theconventional doctors, they act like I’m one step short of the looney-bin. I finally convinced them once to test for mercury, and when Igot to the lab, they did a blood test instead of the hair strand. When I objected - I wanted the hair strand instead - I was toldthat’s an unusual test to do and we didn’t need to do that.

Hi, you’ve definitly come to the right place this time. We have ALL gottenTHOSE looks and comments from doctors and I for one say “to hell with them!!”. This diet will probably be benificial to your daughter. It has certainly helpedmy son very much, he was diagnosed with mild autism.I have run into the same problems as far as getting testing done for my son. However, I started this diet as well as partial Feingold diet about 18 monthsago and he is a different child. The most important thing is not to let the huge amount of information to weighyou down. Try to keep perspective and take it one step at a time. http://www.tacanow.com has some great information including a 10 week plan to startingthe diet. Dana who posts often to this site and is an inspiration to all of ushas a wonderful site with lots and lots of info and links. http://www.danasview.net Keep your chin up. Good Luck.

There is a great deal you can do on your own until you find a goodDAN doctor. I wouldn’t recommend taking just any DAN doctor–you’vealready been through enough incompetence. I am helping my sonwithout a DAN doctor. It can be done. I use a kind but knowsnothing of ASD pediatrician who is learning from me.
You can order a hair test from directlabs.com. You do not need adoctor to do so. I would suggest that you join autism mercury yahoogroup and read the files in order to learn how to intrepret thattest properly. You need the hair elements test. If you join AMfirst and tell them that you are a member you will get a discount($46 I believe).
Other hair tests aren’t nearly as useful.
If you read some of the files at autism-mercury you can find goodinformation regarding metal toxicity. There is even a file aboutchoosing the right diet for your child. There are a good number ofpeople at AM who are working toward recovering their children ontheir own that may be of great assistance to you until you can finda qualified doctor. Even after, since doctors make mistakes and itis good policy to verify everything they recommend.
If you could be more specific about exactly the kind ofbehaviours/problems your daughter has, people could maybe point youin the right direction for supplementation, diet, resources, etc.

This sounds like really bad advice b/c it’s sort of cheating but Ihave a friend who had to do this once before she got herpediatrician involved and participating. Then she found a DAN! so itdidn’t matter.
She had ordered a OAT test kit from Great Plains. She also ordered ametals test kit. They are 2 seperate test kits but the form that thedoctor has to sign is identical. She took the form to the doctor andbegged to sign it for an OAT test claiming that this was theabsolute best test for yeast and bacteria and so he signed for itusing the diagnosis code 348.31
Well since the form has a list of each and every test available shealso checked the Hair Metals test once she got home. She sent bothtests in and when the metals came back showing tons of toxic metalsin her child’s body she was able to get more out of the doctor. Alsothe yeast levels were super high and she was able to getprescriptions to help it.
The doctor did sign for the OAT test to be done but not the metalstest. She just checked the box and sent in the hair. It was a bit offraud though. It’s aweful what some parents have to go through toget the fire started. They have been biomedical for over a year nowand the doctor who called her crazy is now helping her. I hear thatstory time and time again. They are clueless until they have theproof in front of them.
