Natural yeast remedies
After a month of getting nowhere using Nystatin and a mild anti-yeastdiet for my son’s yeast overgrowth, our DAN doctor suggested we usesomething “gentler.” He had a pretty strong reaction (awful increasein stimming, inattentive, etc.) to the Nystatin, and she suggestedCaprylic Acid instead. His yeast culture lab results show that hisparticular culture is also sensitive to goldenseal, berberine, and uvaursi.
I have capsules of Echinacea/Goldenseal and a Berberis homeopathicsolution at home, but haven’t yet used them systematically. I’ve alsoeased up on his anti-yest regimen diet a bit, since it washorrendously difficult and we weren’t seeing any improvement after amonth on it and Nystatin. We still avoid yeast, of course, and try tolimit sugar (but not too well . . .), and are wondering what to try next.
Does anyone have any experience to compare one or more of the abovenatural remedies? What was your experience in terms of improvements, duration of treatment, side-effects, etc? Also, how strictly did youmaintain an anti-yeast diet and what specifically did you avoid?

It just became our “norm” that he had ayeast overgrowth, complete with red rectum, drunken gait, mouth rash, etc.
We moved to another state and switched DAN doctors, and our new doctorprescribed Diflucan. HUGE success!!
I was never sure if the Nystatin problems were die-off and I had givenup too soon, or if he didn’t tolerate it. But it certainly neverhelped. The Diflucan worked extremely well to combat yeast, and Ihonestly don’t know how we left him “untreated” for so long!
Just wanted to share.

My best results so far have been lavendar essential oil put in waterand poured over the head. I did this for myself though, not mychild. It has relieved a bad yeast deposit that I had in my neckthat was causing neck problems. I am currently rubbing it on mystomach to relieve the excess yeast there. Caution: when startinglavendar do not put more than 3 drops on as it may cause nausea ifit is too strong. You can increase the ammount used after theperson gets used to it. Lavendar is safe for use with all ages anddoes not build up a tolerance. It also is able to cross the bloodbrain barrier.
As far as the golden seal. It is good, but should not be used formore than 14 days at a time. It reacts in the body similar toantibiotics and is in fact a natural antibiotic.
Another thing that works is Chamomile. You must get the freshchamomile to strain and make tea with. It also can only be used for14 days. If used any longer it can cause the person to build up anallergic reaction. Also it should not be used on someone that ishighly allergic to pollens as it is the flower of the plant that isused.
My son is on a specific supplemental regimen designed specificallyfor him by a local herbalist/nutritionist. He just started thispast month. She estimated it would take a minimum of one year todetox him. He is showing early signs of detoxing in that hisfreckles are getting lighter a sign that his liver is starting todetox.

There’s a multi-level marketing company (ie direct selling) that sells mangosteen juice (mixed with cranberry etc) - has anybody’s kids improved after taking it & in what ways are the improvement?
It’s from a Canadian company.
I used to know a Tahitian Noni juice which is probably just no better than pure fruit juice.
Will mangosteen bring about speech, improved auditory skills?

My son takes a mangosteen juice(mostly Asian fruit mix) as an immune boosterand it seems to work for that. However, I have not ever heard of mangosteenjuice being able to help autism specifically. All the info I’ve ever read on itjust seems to indicate that it is excellent for immune building. I do not use amultilevel marketing company but buy my mangosteen juice at the local healthfoodstore. I hope that helps some.

Heinz pear juice is only about 30% juice - rather dilute, isn’t it?
Gerber on the other hand says on its label “No sugar added” but under the ingredients section, it says 10g of sugar (for that 986ml bottle) - is this sugar something that comes naturally with the pear or how did they measure the sugar content?

It seems so. What is it diluted with?
That is probably the nutritional label, which would give you the sugarcontent of the pear juice itself. Pears have natural sugar.

The darker the color, the more phenolic content.
Well, cane sugar is still “natural sugar”, just from the cane plant. But in general, fruit sugars tend to be healthier than cane sugar.

My son being vegetarian, the onlyprotein source for him is Pulses only. Have to think ..Where do u getsunbutter and Agave nectar ? What are the vegetables that come underalkaline category ?Have a question- what do you mean by homeopathics that arevibrational medicine . Just curious. What is holistic medicaltreatment ?Sorry I’m asking too many questions. I’m trying to find ways toimprove my son in all aspects. Almost 2 years of Speech therapy onesession per week didn’t do much. We started the diet from June andsaw amazing changes until i added SuperNu Thera. Now for the past 2months all i give him is cod liver oil, methyl cobalmin once a dayand a homeopathy medicine given once a month. He seems to respondwell after i stopped SNT. Now i feel i’m not doing enough to improvehim.

Where do u get sunbutter and Agave nectar?
- I purchase it at Whole Foods, Trader Joes and other specialtygrocery stores. You can also use stevia, but this herbal extract isconsidered an acid forming sweetener. Not that it is a HUGE deal, itis highly concentrated like liquid Sweet ‘N Low.
What are the vegetables that come under alkaline category?
- The following are alkaline FORMING foods. This does nto mean thatthey are inherently alkaline themselves, so in case some of themsurprise you. Too much acid also depletes the body of calcium, magnesium, potassium, and other minerals, so you can see why analkaline diet is so critical. It’s important to mix a protien withnon-starchy vegetables. This is a basic principle of food combining, but it takes a little practice to learn it. Start simple: quinoa andveggies; chicken and leafy green veggies; fish and leafy greenveggies. The other combination is a starch and a green veggie. Don’tmix starches with protien, only with grains and veggies. Your driedbeans are considered protien starches and that is whay they areavoided at first. Later on they can be added, but in the beginning, they shoudl be eliminated. Quinoa is VERY high protien. You can findthat just about anywhere… Trader Joes brand is organic and verywell priced.
Basically all the land vegetables except those I listed before (ofcourse omit corn and allegy foods). zucchini, broccoli, cauliflower, carrots, root veggies (except the potatoes I listed), leafy greens, garlic, onions, leeks, shallots, yellow squash, spaghetti squash, soaked and sproated almonds, coconut milk kefir, lemons, limes, unsweetened cranberries, black currants, Oraganic Raw Apple CiderVinegar, organic herbal teas, herbs, jicama, cabbage, cucumber, spinach, cauliflower, green beans, wax beans, red bell pepper.
All sea vegetables (dulse and including
Vibrational medicines are “basically” charged waters that have aspecific current that works against a specific ailment. I’m juststarting to learn about the “science” behind it, but Dr. Hicks atPathways was interviewed about it on “Path to Wellness” on AutismOne Radio. There are a LOT of informative interviews on this site. Ihighly encourage anyone who reads this to go through and give them alisten, because I know they are in the process of packaging them forsale in the near future.
You can listen to the archived program at their website:

Episode 2 Vibrational Medicine in Treating Autism: Why it is anecessary step in healing.Episode 1 Dangers of Chelation. (as apposed to the naturalchelation available through supplements)
Here is another good interview with him:http://www.pathwaysmed.com/radio/r500.htmEpisode 5 Dr. John Hicks discuss’ alternative medicine.
I was interviewd as well and encourage parents to listen to this:Episode 42 Randi Dube, environmentalist and food expert, discussesthe topic “Pesticides, insecticides, GMO’s, and what is happening toour food supply” I’m a big advocate of organics and this programexplains why we need to be more diligent about what we put into ourbodies, not just our special needs chldren.
- If there is one thing I have learned in my life, as have all theother parents here, you can NEVER ask too many questions. EVER… : )

- I don’t know anything about SNT, but the rule of thumb is, if itseems to make things worse, question it. Ask questions.
And lastly… Just as a little “pump you up” … We all feel wearen’t doing enough from time to time. It takes time to do this. Youget lambasted with a lot of stuff all at once, then you doeverythgin allat once and then you kind fo “coast” then somethign inyour belly stirs you up and you go through a “panic” wondering whatelse you can do. I’ve gong through MANY min-panics, espcially whenmy Asperger’s soon-to-be-ex-husband decided to call ME an unfitmother and sue me fo custody of our son. Talk about panics. Nothingmore jolting than having your parenting skills questioned, let aloneby your child’d father. At any rate, I got thruogh it. Then as time, went by, I learned new stuff, and little by little by asking tons ofquestions, I’ve come to feel I have my barings. It’s taken me threeyears and I have only been aware fo dietary intervention for about ayear and a half. My son’s treatment was delayed because his fatherquestioned everything and HAD to get a second opinion about what Iwas doing. Little did he realize his second opinion would solidifymy case. The delays I was made to endure in order to help my sonallows me to fully understand how anxious others are with thereown “walls” in trying to get treatment for their children. Thesechallenges just need to be broken through. It’s a process and thebest advice I can give you is do not feel like the world will crashif you don’t do everything at once. Breath… Pace yourself. Day byday you are making strides. And your child’s recovery will happen tothe degree that it is supposed to. But the not knowing is a killer, isn’t it? Just HOW much can we expect our children to heal? Wellthere’s a question to ponder and confer with your high power over, Ifind. You are doing everything you need to at every given moment. And when new information comes in you’ll apply it as you can. You’redoing a fantastic job. Give yourself a break and pamper yourself abit, ok? It’s the holiday season. No need to overload your plateright now… ; )
