My peditrician begrudgingly went along with my request to have myson’s blood tested for gluten allergy. His results were negative forthe allergy, negative for any metals and acceptable blood culturelevels. I have a funny feeling this blood draw was a waste of time.Could my little guy still be allergic to gluten? Is the urinepeptide test a better indicator of allergy? How should someone betested for yeast levels? Is a hair sample the most accurate way totest for metals? My DAN doctor appointment is six weeks away and Iam just so anxious to start helping my little guy right now.

Blood metal test will tell you about lead and about recent exposuresonly. Nothing beyond about 3 months ago.

    Possibly, or intolerant.

Depends on who you ask. Many people believe hair test is best, plusit can give you other info about what might help.

we recently received some lab results from my 4.5 yo son. and i had somequestions….

we had labs done two years ago by Great Smokies which showed two types of yeastwere high. new test done last month by Great Smokies shows no yeast.

We did treat yeast with Nysatin a two years ago, even though the original testshowed the type of yeast would be resistant to Nysatin. But, DAN dr. thoughtNysatin was still the best route to go as it had less side effects. Well, wegave son the 6 week dose and thats all we have ever done for yeast. (he hasalso been on probiotic) He was gf/cf then, then we stopped for about a year, then started gf/cf again about a month before the most recent test.

I am just surprised that there is none, considering his sugary diet, etc. Should I look into this any further, or assume the test are accurate?

Also, 2 years ago he had no gowth of Lactobacillus (benefical bacteria) and thenew test showed the same, NO GROWTH. he has been on Probio Gold, so i amsurprised that hasnt gotten better. We have now change to the Klaire probiotic. Is that all i can do to increase this, change the type of probiotic?

Sorry so long. i have some other questions, but will post them on another post.TIA for all the inof. i love this group.

Regarding good bacteria…I was at an autism meeting a couple ofweeks ago and we had Karen Seroussi there speaking. She suggestedthat cultured vegetables are an excellent, effective (and cheap) wayto introduce good bacteria into the gut. If you do a googleon “cultured vegetables” or the Body Ecology Diet you can read abouthow to make cultured veggies at home. If you cannot get the childto eat the veggies, drinking the juices is adequate to introducegood bacteria. The cultured veggies and juice are heat sensitive, soyou have to refrigerate after they are done, and eat them cold, perhaps in a salad.

I had my son tested for everything mentioned in the group. No yeast, no mercury, no wheat, oat or any other problem. He doeshowever get a high potassium level occasionally which is confusing hisdoctors. I know about the mercury, that it usually doesn’t show up andI’m trying to work with his doctor to chelate him a few days andretest, which he isn’t too keen on, but would the yeast show up ifthere was a problem? or should I just assume it might be and try somesupplements for that as well. I am going to do the Taurine,Magnesium, no fenol and zinc.

What test did you do to test the mercury? Was it the metals hairanalysis test from Doctor’s Data lab? If so was anything else highon the test that would allow him to chelate like Lead or Arsenic?Honestly sometimes Chelation will not start pulling mercury forseveral months. I have read tons of posts on chelatingkids2 (anotheryahoo group about chelating) and many parents are 9 months into itand just now pulling mercury. However they’e been pulling lead thewhole time which makes the child elligible for insurance to coverthe chelation. What were the other metals tested for on the mercurytest you had? If you had a blood test done then it’s not surprisingthat you don’t see mercury b/c it will only show what he’s come intocontact with over the past week or so before the blood was drawn. Weare using TD-DMSA for chelation and not pulling mercury yet but Iknow that soon we will be. It’s a long process.

Yeast would show up in a urine test for sure and also a stoolanalysis. But you usually have to use a lab that tests foreverything and not a local lab b/c labs that deal with our childrenlike Great PLains Lab know wxactly what to look for. I had a urinetest done locally at a lab called Lab Corp and no yeast showed upbut when we sent it to great plains lab they tested for differentstrands that are common in ASD kids and it was positive. Where didyou have your childs labs done? It’s very possible that the child isyeast free. Not all ASD kids are yeast kids. I know several thataren’t and several parents who post on here have kids that are yeastfree.

If you had a Peptide test done then I wouldn’t rely solely on that. Our DAN! said that the Peptide test is not accurate. One of hispatients tested negative for the peptide test but he wanted to do atrial of GFCF anyway with no other supplements and the child was agreat responder. Eye contact, no more stimming, and attention werethe 3 biggest improvements. Some people choose to do GFCF for a fewmonths just to see if it helps but when you add tons of supplementsit’s hard to tell what is working. Maybe adding the supplementsfirst for a month or so would help you see what’s helping and what’snot and then possibly implement the diet.

I would definately give CLO (cod liver oil) and Pro-EFA Omega 3 fishoil. You can buy them in a soft gell chewable form if your childwon’t take the liquid. Nordic Naturals (google the name for theirwebsite) is the brand that we use.

Can you let us know where you got your childs testing done at? Thatmay be helpful. Was it locally? I am good at reading tests fromGreat Plains Lab and Doctors Data Lab (metals test for DDL) but whenwe used our local lab nothing showed up.
