Loves apples - could it be yeast?

My son cannot get enough apples. It is his snack of choice. We tryand steer him to other things but sometimes when we don’t notice hewill open the fridge and get an apple. He probably eats 2 apples aday. His diet is gf/cf, not sugar free but low in sugar, and wesupplement with probiotics, enzymes, and we recently treated him foryeast with a medication (can’t remember name). Still he lovesapples. I tried replacing apples with pears and he wouldn’t hear ofit. His poo is almost always mush, and on occassion burns his butt.

Any suggestions? Anyone with similar experiences that took actionthat fixed it?

I would really like to get his poos to be normal, and I am thinkinghis apple obsession is not good, basing it off my experience withgluten and dairy before starting gf/cf diet. Thanks for yoursuggestions.

We had the same issue with apples. Many days all she would do ismunch on apples all day. (This was before we began the diet)After we started the diet and learned that apples are high on thephenol list I guessed that was why she loved them so much. Manykids who are phenol sensitive crave the high phenol foods. I don’tknow if your child has a phenol problem, but chances are he does ifhe craves apples. Usually the foods most preferred should besuspect. You can try the golden delicious apples - they are lowerin phenol - or keep trying to replace with pears. They really are amuch better choice for many reasons, including yeast and phenol.

After you remove dairy and gluten, other food intolerance can beginto show up. One of these would be foods high inphenols/salicylates. Usually you would see a reaction such as nightwaking, extreme silliness/laughter or hyperactivity after these foodsare eaten. As for the bananas, it could also be the natural sugarcontent. Go to danasview.net -has a great section on phenols. There are some really good links which show the phenol/salicylatecontent of many foods. She also has lots of other great informationon her site. Check it out.

Apples and pears are in the same food family. If he tried the pearand THEN did not want it, then he probably does not have anintolerance issue to the apple itself, but it is probably phenolintolerance. Do you use No-Fenol enzyme? It might help. Altho formy son, enzymes did not help for foods which caused burning diarrhea.
