Soy lecithin

I am a new member. My 3 year old is on a GF/CF/SF diet. What is SoyLecithin and it is advisable on the SF diet (similar to ghee orclarified butter being advisable on the CF diet since even though itis derived from milk, it is 100% fat and does not have any milkprotein). My 3 year old likes these buckwheat waffles but these havesoy lecithin in them.

lethicin, some can tolerate soy oil. Mine cannot tolerate any soyproducts at all. If your child has has bad reactions to soy in thepast be careful. You can try giving alittle & see what happens. Yourchild may also be able to tolerate things with this ingredient if youuse enzymes.

My son is GFCF. We also avoid soy. But, I was told that the soyprotein is not the same as soy lecithin. Is this true? Can anyoneexplain the difference?? I am trying to pick out Easter Candies formy son and if he could have soy lecithin that would give him/us muchmore to choose from.

Does anybody know if soy lecithin is OK for a child that showssensitivities to soy on the IgG allergy test? The test is based on sensitivities to peptides, or proteins inspecific foods, and I’m not sure if soy lecithin has the peptides(proteins) present. If anybody knows I would appreciate it.

From what I’ve read it depends on just how sensitive your child is to soy. Mostwith a soy sensitivity can have lecithin or soy oil, just not “soy” withoutanything more or soy flour (which would have the proteins). Some can have 1 orthe other (soy oil or soy lecithin), some can have neither. Someone else willhave to answer whether you should take everything soy out and add back 1 at atime or if you can leave soy oil and lecithin in and just see if there is achange versus when the child was getting soy proteins.

I’m so sorry, but I’m getting confused. Can someone clear up whetherwe should be avoiding soy lecithin if we are going Soy Free? Ithought someone said it was ok because of the way it is processed, orI might have misunderstood.

Most kids who can’t have soy, can have lecithin, but some can’t. Iwould try to avoid it at first, then add it later and see what happens.
