Where are you in the BayArea? I am in Tracy CA and I currently have an appt for Dr Mielke (aDAN Dr) in Feb. I made the appt in Sept. It is going to cost meabout a total of 6 thousand dollars to get my son totally looked at byher. I have since made an appt with a regular ped that will work withme and have the ins pay for the blood tests. A DAN dr stands forDefeat Autism Now. A lot of Dr’s go to the conference and feel likethey are ready to treat autistic children. My only caution to you is,make sure you know what you are getting into. You can feel free toask me ?’s, especially since I’m in the Bay Area. I would love tohelp you and your child.

DAN stand for the organization ‘Defeat Autism Now’. A DAN Dr. is justa doctor that has attended at least 1 DAN conference and is supposed to followthe DAN protocol for treating autism. I say supposed to because some of themtake very different approaches than others. Your best plan is to educateyourself as much as possible and rely on your own instincts. If the doctor istelling you something that does not sit well with you then by all means questionthem!

He’s very hyper. Yells out a lot for no reason, always hungry, used to haveabout 2-3 night terrors a night until we started the Geodon, which is theonly prescribed medicine he is on. He’s high functioning autism, learned todo all the norm things on time.(talking, potty in toilet and so on). Veryaggressive. Hates to lose at anything and will stop playing, even if hethinks he is going to lose. Can’t keep interest in anything for more than afew minutes. Has his own computer, our old one, and games and doesn’t playthem. Rarely even goes on the computer. Gets very aggresive in play. Can’thandle over stimulation. Very good at sports, but when we put him in aleague or etc, he can’t focus very long and totally disrupts the team, aswell as his classroom at school. Very lovy kissy, affectionate. Putseverything in his mouth and recently started smelling his fingers constantly
He is dx with high functioning autism, ADHD, sensory integration issues. His psychiatrist feels he may be BP, but I really don’t think so. We triedtreating him for that with no change. He is now on Taurine, Peptizide AFP,Zyme prime, vit C, No Fenol and geodon.

Have you looked into the Feingold diet? I use this as well as gf/cffor my ASD son and use Feingold and Lactose free for our daughter who is ADHD. I stress using the diary, it will help to figure out what works for YOUR son. The foods they react to are as varied as the spectrum itself and therefore, although you can get good ideas from other parents like us, it is important tofigure out the balance that works best for your son. MSG, artificial foodcoloring and high phenol foods will make my son hyper and aggressive. Hope thishelps some.
