It was suggested to me — not here on the boards, but by an ASD nutritionist –tosweeten water with a little lemon and a few drops of Stevia. I haven’t had to doit becauseafter adding supplements and digestive enzymes my son has suddenly starteddrinkingwater when he never would before. Of course, he’ll only drink it ice cold, outof a bottle, with a straw
But that’s okay by me. Before that he was only drinking pearjuice. Bad, Iknow. But pear juice is supposed to be better than the others because its sugarsdon’t feedyeast (just what I was told) and its easier on the stomach. It took him somegetting usedto, but he doesn’t complain about it at all anymore. Oh. And he’s starteddrinking rice milktoo. Before that he wouldn’t drink any milk and he can’t do Vance’s because hehas issueswith white potato.

My son only drinks water with stevia. I put 1/4 cup of blueberry juicein it to give it color. I just mix it in a gallon of water bought atthe store. Pour a little out and put the 1/4 cup BB juice add 3 vilesof stevia and he drinks 1 gallon every day. I use blueberry juice b/cit is so dark it’s almost black. It takes very little to make waterturn purple. Also b/c it is healthier than most other juices and weavoid the Arabinose thats found in apples, pears, and grapes (andtheir juices).

Arabinose is yeast. If you have had an OAT test done then they testfor Arabinose. The insuructions from the lab state to make sure tonot eat or drink anything with pears, grapes (raisens), cranberries,or apples Including juice b/c it will alter the test and give you afalse high result.
My son avoided all those foods for nearly a week before testing hisurine and his was still 821.74 with a normal reference range being 0-47.

Actually it is a sugar found in many fruits, including tomatoes andcertain fruits, like the ones Crystal already mentioned and it ayeast indicator. Here is an excellent link to describe what it is andwhat it does.

I think this might need some clarification. Arabinose is actually akind of sugar. Dr. Shaw’s GPL test claims that arabinose found inurine is an indicator of fungal overgrowth. This is hotly contestedby people with PhD’s in this kind of stuff–in fact, from the littlebit I do know, I think Dr. Shaw is one of the few who believesthis. I myself don’t know what to believe, even though I justordered another OAT from GPL to test for yeast (by measuringarabinose!) and bacteria. It is something that I’ve been meaning toinvestigate that keeps getting pushed to the back burner.
So, I think I’ve just muddied the waters somewhat, but I believethat is a pretty accurate picture of the yeast/arabinose issue:muddy.
