Good cheese and dari-free

On cheeses, we also love the soy (the only edible one without casein inboth my daughter’s and my opinion, and her only current source of soy — shedoesn’t seem sensitive to soy yet but I’m being careful, and we try to cover itwith an enzyme tablet.) HOWEVER, the only place we used to find it here in theDC metro area was My Organic Market (neither Trader Joe’s nor Whole Foodscarries it), and they stopped last summer because of the trans-fats scare! Apparently Tofutti is the only lactose-free cheese that has ‘em. When I havetime in 100 years I’d like to start a letter-writing campaign…deprive a wholeset of GFCF kids of good mac and cheese because of transfats…can’t they letfolks make their own choices?

They were however very apologetic and now order it for us in cases of`12 at noadditional cost, and my guess is other organic foods stores can do the same. For those in our area, by the way, MOM’s definitely has the best range of GFCFfoods, though it doesn’t seem well-known. I literally cried in the aisles myfirst visit there when I saw so many things only previously available by mailorder, it’s made our life so much easier. So they’re forgiven on the Tofutticount.

(My NEXT letter campaign would be Amy’s, which has a rice crust pizza that hasmilk cheese and a wheat crust pizza that has no cheese…and Tofutti which has arice crust pizza but doesn’t use its own CF cheese on top — can’t they put itall together to produce just one GFCF pizza for our kids? I’m getting goodthough at turning out the home-made ones! End of rant :-).)

Someone asked about Dari-Free, my daughter loves it (especially the chocolate)but unfortunately our nutritionist recently pointed out that it’s pure sugar –not a gram of protein. So we’re back to the almond and hazelnut milks fornormal use, Almond Breeze has a trace of but otherwise seems thebest “line” for us.

It’s been awhile since we had to buy dairy free products so I am glad to bereminded ofwhich ones are good and “tried and true” from you guys here. Thanks foreveryone’s help.I checked Vance’s Dari-Free website, and under nutrition, it states that thiswas developedkeeping in mind that some people are on protein restricted diets (On theirwebsite, youcan click on nutrition and see everything in it). Our nutritionist a few yearsbackrecommended this and she spoke arond the cuntry in gfcf diets. The lcoal HFstore didn’thave it, so we just used the almond milk (and they still don’t, just calledthem), but I planon ordering this to use for our house. Will let the group know. I did a googlesearch forVance’s Dari-Free and the website popped right up. Excellent source of calcium, and ifyour kids get plenty of protein in meats and other sources, this is still 30%calcium.
