Multivitamins - could this be our problem?

We’ve been CF for several months and GF for about 3 weeks. We startedmy son on a (Freeda Vitalets) and calcuimsupplement (Kirkman’s Liquid) about a week ago. His behavior hastaken a sharp turn for the worse in the past week. Spinning, hyper, tantrums, obsessive behaviors, seems “drunk” at times. I am re-examining everything I’m feeding him and I realize it might be a lotof things - we have not totally removed soy, so that’s a possibleculprit..I bought several bottles of and we are takingaway all other juices for now in case that’s the problem…but thefact that this behavior change took place when I started themultivitamins makes me wonder…could those be the problem? (Ithought Freeda/Kirkman’s were the “cleanest” choices available.) OurDAN appointment is not for another 3 weeks, and I am nervous abouttrying anything more than a multivitamin until then. Perhaps Ishould just stop the vitamins for now? Other suggestions?

I’m new at this too, having started only a week ago. But everythingI’ve read says the first initial weeks are the hardest, the child maybehave worse, and it is because they are in withdrawal from thegluten. One book I read is by Luke Jackson about his experience withgoing on the GFCF diet.

I would wait longer than a week before removing even more from hisdiet. What do the more experienced moms say?…

I would stop the multi and stick with the calcium, and add half the calciumdosages’ worth of magnesium. Then, after a few days, I would start givingzinc, at 1mg per lb. of weight.

In a couple of weeks, try the multi again. If you get adverse effects, Iwould suggest switching to a good B100 or B50. I use Solgar brand for mostof the supplements we give, and some Solaray branded supplements that Solgardoesn’t make. Solgar is rated Kosher Parve for those things we use, and sothere are no fillers and no cross-contamination issues. Seehttp://www.solgar.com and http://www.solaray.com

We had a lot of problems with a variety of supplements and finallyunderstood why when it was clear that GF/CF wasn’t enough. We’re also soy, corn, coconut, palm and citrus free.

Some all natural flavors can cause behavioral reactions in sensitivekids. The natural flavors and colors, of course, are LOTS better thanpetroleum-based artificial ones. But some, such as apple, grape, or orange, could causeproblems, being high in salicylates (see the Feingold website for more infoon salicylates and behavior).
