OK..I’ve been allowing my son to eat this 1-2X per week and we haveseen a return of eye stimming (mild), humming, hyperactivity, poorfocus. Is this cross contamination from wheat or the oats themselves?

There was a study done a while ago that determined that McCann’s oatswere contaminated but they supposedly cleaned up their act. They noware supposed to be free of contamination though I believe to be safethey still put on their website that there is the possibility ofcontamination.
I asked one time a group of adult celiacs if they have tried McCann’soats. Most of them had and among them most had some type ofreaction. Their typical reaction to gluten is sharp stomach painwhile with oats it was a dull ache. Many believe that even thoughoats do not have gluten, they are so close to gluten that it stillcauses problems. If I were you, I would take his reaction as a signhe does not tolerate them regardless if it is due to contamination orthe oats themselves.

I had emailed McCann’s a while back about whether or not their oats are gluten free. They told me that their oats are not gluten free as they are processed on equipment that also processes wheat. The amount of cross contamination is low, but it is problematic for many people who need to be gluten free.
If you are interested in gluten free oats, you can try Gifts of Nature (www.giftsofnature.com) or Glutenfree.com (Gluten Free Pantry). They sell oats from Cream Hill Estates (Canada).
I wish you and your son all the best,

Having been GFCFSFEF since April 2007, I’ve found 36 recipes at . Does anyone have any other recipes or other resources for those who are GFCFSFEF like me?
