Yeast die-off
We changed our boy’s constipation to diarrhea by increasing to fulldose of Glycolax, increasing magnesium, and serving potato more oftenand rice less. We found a balance finally, but kept him on the runnyside because he was still straining (even though no more bricks). Weassume it’s gas pains. We’d taken 3-4 weeks to get to this point.Things were stable.
About 4 days ago we tried to add a yeast kill protocol that anotherparent wrote she had success with. We tried to use No fenol and 1hour later, a few drops of GSE. We did this only one time per day forthree days.
Now Seth has worse diarrhea like water. This has been going on for2-3 days now. It was so bad today, that Seth’s teacher called andsaid it ran down his pants into his shoes, so he had to be taken homefrom school early (or stay there with no shoes). My wife thought weshould cut back on No Fenol and GSE. I said, no. Cut back on Glycolax.
Was the yeast causing the constipation, and can the very waterydiarrhea therefore indicate yeast is dead or dying? Have other’sexperienced this, or is our boy unique? Should we suspect somethingelse caused the change? Would it be a good idea to continue the yeastkill protocol indefinitely, and slowly cut out the Glycolax? I’venoticed a bit more congition since the No Phenol / GSE routine.
Mayonnaise
Ok, I promise this is the last question (at least this morning)!!
Anyone make homemade mayonnaise? The recipes I see call for eggs. Isn’tthere a possibility of salmonilla or something nasty from raw eggs? Arethere special eggs you can use to eliminate this possibility? Does anyoneknow this one?
Favorite sandwich breads?
Can I get some suggestions of a good sandwich bread please for my sonwho ONLY eats sandwiches!
How to sneak in some broccoli?
Before the GFCF diet, my son would only eat very few select foods. He wouldonly eat McDonald’s nuggets, not the ones I made at home. When I startedthe GFCF diet, I also started him on a regimen of olive leaf extract andthat really seemed to increase his appettite for other foods. Somethingabout the magnesium that helps. I would sneak it in the very first bite ofapplesauce. Now he’ll actually eat completely unseasoned, unbreaded chickenbreast, pork chops, and many other meats that I bake at home! He would eventolerate salad for a short period of time. However, lately I have also hada problem with getting veggies into my son’s diet. I’ve started juicingthem. I throw in broccoli, carrots and an apple and he’ll drink it. Itdoesn’t produce much liquid, but it is chock full of vitamins, so getttinghim to drink a couple of swallows isn’t too bad. Besides, the apple coversmost of the taste from the other veggies. You could maybe add organic honeyor cane sugar for taste. Make sure to put it in a cup that’s not clear.Maybe use a lid and a straw. My son was turned off by the color (peagreen!). Juicers have gotten pretty affordable. I actually use the MagicBullet (as seen on tv). It’s not the greatest juicer, but it works.
Goat’s milk
We gave my son some goat’s milk on teh advise of our DAN and it was abig mistake. within hours he was stimming(had not done that in months ) and hisnose strated running. Its a month now and the effects are wearing out but I wishwe hadnt done that.
Almond milk
I purchased almond Breeze milk (choc) made from blue diamond. Isthis okay? My son actually drank it and enjoyed it! He didn’t likethe soy (Silk) & told me it was “yuky”. I cut milk out of his diet 3weeks ago, actually by chance (we ran out of strawberry quick andthat’s the only way he really likes it).
Also…I can’t get him 2 eat fruit anymore. The past (2) years hasbeen tough with him trying new foods. I give him 100% fruit juicefor lunch, but it bothers me all the vitamins he’s missing out. Hecurrently takes super-nu-thera and cod liver oil (nordic naturals)per our DAN!
WE had to post our f/u appt that was sched for 8/31/04 until midseptember cause I cant get my son to pee in a cup. He’s not pottytrained but will go on the potty, but thought it was “gross” that hehad to pee in a cup. Ugh…. My DAN had us set up for an OATS testand some others.

Citrus free beverage
Does anyone know of a citrus free beverage besides water and the dairyfree milk products? Since I took my son off dairy he has been beendrinking lemonade and orange juice. Now the Dr. says citrus has to go.
Gluten free beer
Warnings on the bottles contain the caution for pregnant women, and the warning that too much alcohol could impair your ability. But what about those who can’t tolerate gluten?
For Americans who suffer from celiac disease a sensitivity to the gluten contained in wheat, rye and barley can have painful results.
The body sees the gluten as an enemy. That’s why nutrients can’t be absorbed, and sufferer gets symptoms like cramps and fatigue.
However beer manufacturers have made gluten-free beer that received high responses also from non-celiac sufferers.
