Suggestions for traveling?
We are going away over thanksgiving weekend. We will be in the car forabout 7 hours the first day and 10 hrs the next day. We will also bestaying at a hotel with fridge and microwave. I’m trying to plan thebest ways to bring and give his supplements and gf/cf food. A few ofthe supps have to be friged, so I guess I’ll bring a cooler for that. This is our first travel experience since all this started. Any tipsfrom BTDT people? I thought about premixing his supplements andloading them into syringes, but somehow I don’t think that they can allsafely stay together for that amount of time.
Vitamin supplements
My son has been on a vitamin supplement for Down syndrome for years. Listedbelow are the ingredients in this supplement. Are any of these ingredients”red alerts” (shouldn’t be given) to a child with some autistic features? Is there anything missing? I am considering switching to Kirkman’s but amconcerned that his current formula has so many more things in it?
Child has been ill, stopped taking supplements
My daughter reported to me that my grandson skipped his supplements forseveral days because he wasn’t eating because of a bad cold. She says shenoticedthat when they were reintroduced that he seemed overly emotional. She alsosaid that one day he hid his pills because he didn’t want to take them. He hasmade so much progress since he had the heavy metals removed from his teeth inJuly. For your experiences, is this regression due to the removal andsubsequent reintroduction of the supplements?
My daughter, unfortunately, is the type that will abandon the pills if shegets too much resistance from her eight year old son. She is going to contactthe doctor but I need knowledge to advise her and her encourage her to keep upthe supplements.

Vitamins
I need a multi vitamin and calcium supplement for my toddler. WHat doyou guys give your GFCF kids? The GFCF diet webpage has some - KirkmanCalcium liquid and Freeda chewables. I might order them, but I’d loveto find some locally if I can. Also - does Kirkman’s Calcium Liquidhave dosage info for 2 year olds? It doesn’t appear to be a kids onlyformula.
Adding/removing supplements
I’ve been reading the string about Zinc/teeth grinding so I thought Iwould add Zinc to his regimine. I was at the hfs and there are acouple kinds of zinc… chelated zinc and zinc picolinate. What isthe difference, which one should I use and how much should I give him(he’s around 38 lbs)? The grinding is only while sleeping and hisappetite has never been great (but I have seen some improvements sincebeing off of gluten).
Also, his paternal ggm got b12 shots. I’m not sure why, familymedical history is a bit shaky since my mil not the most reliablehistorian (and ggm is dead now). However, it must have been for areason right? So, I was going to add b vits in assuming there isprobably a family history of deficiency, but when I did sublingual b12before, it just hyped him up. So, if I do a multi b, should I startwith b-50 and see how he tolerates it? If there is a seeminglyadverse reaction, should I stop right away, or give him a couple daysto see if he levels out?
On the b vit, I was thinking of asking his ped to do a b12 test at hisupcoming 5 year appointment (when I also plan to broach my concernsthat he’s on the spectrum). Is there a certain way this should bedone or a certain type of test that is more accurate? I don’t want towaste our time on a substandard test. Are there other simple tests Ishould try to ask the ped for (mainstream ped, DO)? Yeast cultures?Food allergy panels?
Zinc supplyments
In the “Grinding teeth” discussion thread, people mention zinc and/or Calciumsupplyment. Where can I buy? what are their brand name?
No fenol or phenol assist–any words ?
I am wanting to try some type of “assistance” for my son. We are GFCFnow for about 10 weeks. I am now trying to see if he indeed has aphenol intolerance of some degree. ketchup and peaches are our twobiggest offenders along with fruit juice.
Any words on your use of a particular product?? We mix everything in asippy cup–so the least amount of taste is important in a supplement.
Zinc deficiency
I’m fairly sure my son is zinc deficient - teeth grinding, licking…but I have tried two different forms of zinc supplementation (ground uptablet and liquid), regular dose and low dose, and both supplenents, atany dose, make him pee the bed!
What do you do in this type of situation? How am I supposed tosupplement him if he has no tolerance for it?
And not that it matters, but I find this cause and effect totallybizarre….and frustrating.
Flying with supplements
We will be flying with my son who takes a bunch of supplements. One ofthem is the TD-Glutathione that is in a prefilled syringe. What is thebest way to travel with these on an airplane? SHould I take eachbottle? Also, should I bring a note from his doctor? Thanks so muchfor your help.
